About us
DAWN PEARSON
I’m an English teacher from the UK and spent 10 years living and working in Germany. I travelled all over the world teaching squash, windsurfing, and sailing and have had several ‘different’ experiences working in a ski chalet, working on a yacht up and down the Greek Islands and working in a rehabilitation centre for Vervet Monkeys in South Africa. It was there that I saw the need for an organization to offer veterinary students projects whereby they worked alongside vets in small numbers in order to gain their work experience without most of the money being eaten up in administrative costs.
Loraine and I set up Vets and Wildlife in S Africa, our business is based on honesty and integrity and we both share and practice the same Christian faith. We offer projects where students work closely with the Veterinarians and prefer only 2 to 4 students working with the vet depending on which project it is.
The Sri Lankan and Indian projects we work with are usually non-government-funded and some are funded solely from the money paid by the students.
We hope that we can continue to help veterinary students realize their dreams.
LORAINE SCHEEPERS
I am married with two children and lives in Pretoria. I am originally from Tzaneen, a small town about an hour and a half from the Kruger National Park. I studied and qualified in Business administration at Pretoria University in 2000.
In 2007 Dawn Pearson (my business partner) visited South Africa on a volunteer project to work with vervet monkeys.
She approached me to join her setting up an honest company whereby volunteers receive immediate answers to their questions and are looked after every step of the way. We are both committed Christians sharing the same faith and trust that this is reflected in both our personal and our business lives.
We hope that through Vets and Wildlife we can achieve these goals in helping Vet students, in particular, realise their dreams at an affordable price and give them a wonderful experience to look back on.
